Housekeeping
I’m finally dusting off this blog after…uh…7 years?? I used to get contact form spam like once every few months, enough to be like “hey, the contact form still works!” without being annoying, but now it’s many a day (I blame AI) so it’s dead to me now. So’s the comment form, I almost never got real comments so out it goes. If you need to contact me, social media links and my email are on the about page.
It took me a minute to remember how my blog works (it’s a static site generated with Hugo, if you’re curious), but less time than I would have spent updating wordpress over the last 7 years, so win! The category pages don’t work, I don’t know why, I may or may not fix that. I may have to upgrade Hugo since I’m so out of date with the current docs, and that will entail an unknown other number of tweaks to get my stuff to work with the new version…eh. Any old content you’d get to that way is probably not relevant anyway.
I basically don’t blog anymore, I rarely feel I have something to say to the anonymous personages of the internet in a format less ephemeral than social media, but a recap for the curious:
I am still in Pittsburgh, and still working for UPMC working on design systems. I realized I’ve been building design systems since I knew what a design system was, so that tracks.
I learned to crochet when the pandemic started to keep my hands busy in meetings while working remotely (it’s so easy to start reading emails and then someone says “Pam, what do you think?” and I have no idea what they’re talking about). I learned to knit last year too. I’ve become a person who wears garments I made myself. Ask me more about my hobbies!
Zack and I bought a house right before the pandemic started and have discovered the joys of home maintenance (and the oddities of previous owners’ choices in a 90 year old house). We recently added solar panels, which aren’t as efficient as if they were in California, but still enough to produce 50% more power than we need, so that’s cool.
I finally found a dance studio with adult tap. It is the most chill studio I have ever been to and I like it, though I think maybe it wouldn’t have been as good for me as a teenager–it was good to have the prospective professional dancers to push me then. I’ve also started ballet, I am bad at it, but it’s ok to be bad at your hobbies.
Probably some other things happened in 7 years, but mostly I’m a pretty boring person so maybe not.
See you maybe in another 7 years!
